Change primary alias

not using 365 account it an xbox account i made in to 2011 i think and this is the email

Thanks for reaching out here in Xbox Forums. I understand there is an issue with changing the primary alias to an existing Microsoft Account. When changing a primary aliases on an account, you may not use any Microsoft Domains such as: xboxlivefamily.com,
Hotmail.com, live.com, outlook.com, and msn.com.

It seems that Microsoft had issues with the xboxlivefamily.com domain in the past.

An user in this thread (Simon Sabin on October 2015, bottom of the page)
contacted the support, and they were able to resolve it somehow. However another user that asked them to do it with a reference to the support number said that support can't access the account to do it. So your mileage may vary.

Just to get an understanding so I can try and help.

You currently have an old account that you are trying to change the primary email address on (the email in your post was blocked out for privacy purposes so can not see it).



You have a different email that you are trying to add to this old account and when you go to add it, it gives you that error message.

(The new account) Is it already a MS account? Do you use it for anything else to do with MS like Windows 10, Xbox, Office?

If so then you will not be able to add it to your old account because it is already a MS account?

Is the new account a work email, School email?

Is the new email a Hotmail, Outlook, Live, MSN email?

Is it possible that you are using an Office 365 account from your company as your Microsoft Account as well?
