  1. HARD DRIVE SPEEDS

I plan on buying an external hard drive this weekend

I have a question about DATA TRANSFER RATE

what is a good speed ?

I'm looking at a sea gate backup plus 3 TB

DATA TRANSFER RATE is 4.8 Gbps

    Is this any good ?

Thanks for any help or tips

    :)

    Xbox is Ridiculously Slow

So I assume you moved the hard drive between the consoles otherwise it is very unlikely to be the hard drive as it is a different hard drive.

If it is the same hard drive. Try removing the hard drive (temporary) to see if the speed improves

    (support.xbox.com/.../add-remove-hard-drive)/

If the speed improves it is safe to assume it is the hard drive

  3. External Hard Drive Speeds

If you can get an external with a 7200rpm hdd then go for it, but the 5400rpm drives will work just fine. Note that the external hard drive
MUST be USB 3.0 compliant. Minimum size of 256GB.

    Doesn't work like that.

The transfer rate is limited more by the drive itself than the interface. Sequential transfer rate is around 100-200MBs/sec for rotational discs. Random read/write is abysmal, at around 0.5MB/sec. Not really a problem since games are designed to run on the
internal disc and that'll have the same limitation.

If you want control over exactly what drive you're connecting, buy an external enclosure and fit it with the internal drive of choice. That allows you to buy things like a 10K RPM drive and fit it in an enclosure (though why you would want to is beyond me).

Does downloading and installing games on an external hard drive slow down the games?

I have an external hard drive and I had no problem with the cut scenes in gears of war ultimate edition. Two things you should check is the speed of the drive (RPM) and the transfer speed of the drive. Compare this to a high quality drive brand (Seagate)
and this should determine if your hard drive is good or not. If it has similar stats, then try the hard drive on a different xbox one, this will see if it is the hard drive, or your xbox one.

I'm going to have to pick up an external drive myself. Thanks for the information.
