No Sugar Cane In Your World? Don't Give Up Hope! It May Be Hiding!

I love to play in Survival Mode on extreme worlds, particularly ocean worlds. As such, I am used to dealing with scarce or non-existent resources. Even on worlds that look normal, you may find yourself investing dozens of hours on a map only to find it
is missing a resource you want. One of the most common resources that might appear to be missing from your world is sugar cane. In fact, the original tutorial world for the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft had no sugar cane. This can be a problem for players,
because without sugar cane, you will not be able to take advantage of enchanting--both enchantment tables and bookcases require books as a crafting ingredient and books are made from paper which is made from sugar cane. You will also not be able to make cake,
maps, and compasses. In short, the absence of sugar cane can be a drag. But if you don't find any sugar cane when scouring your world, don't lose hope. It may still be there, but in a place you wouldn't think to look--underwater. In both ocean worlds that I
have created, I have found some sugar cane growing in air pockets under water, typically at the precipice of an underwater cavern. I presume that the world generation engine mistakes these air pockets as being above water, when in fact they are not. Sugar
cane will not be placed naturally in caves, but these underwater air pockets on the fringes of the cave structure are apparently not recognized by the game engine as being part of the cave, and as a result, the game figures that if there is air and it is not
in a cave, it must be above ground and, thus, there is a chance it will place sugar cane there for you to find. Because these air pockets are usually only one block in size, the sugar cane found in them is typically one block tall, but you need only a single
piece of sugar cane to generate an endless supply.

Hopefully this may help a few survivalists frustrated with a lack of sugar cane on their world.

    :)

    Cactus and Sugar Cane

If you have already destroyed all of the sugar cane in your world, no more will appear. It generates automatically only once--when your map was created (the only other way to get sugar cane is by planting sugar cane). If you have already explored your
entire world and there is no more sugar cane that you have not already destroyed, then you will have no sugar cane in your world (and as a result, no maps, bookshelves, cake, compass, etc).
